State Results

• Congratulations to both the Wind Orchestra and Wind Symphony for earning straight Superior ratings at the State Band Music Performance Assessment. One of only two band programs in the state to achieve this distinction.

• FBA Solo and Ensemble Results for March 29, 2005. Word Format.

• Congratulations to the Jazz Band for earning an overall "Superior" rating at the State Jazz Band Music Performance Assessment.

Winter Guard

• Congratulations to both Winter Guard teams (the Taravettes and the Taravella A Guard) for their outstanding performances at the Tampa/Clearwater WGI Regional on March 5. The Taravettes competed in the Scholastic A division, round 2 prelims, performing the best show they have had this season. The Taravella A Guard placed 2nd in their prelim round with a score of 78.5 and them came back in the evening finals to provide the audience with an emotionally charged and inspiring performance, scoring an 82.1 and placing 4th overall.

• Congratulations to the Scholastic A Winter Guard for their 2nd place finish at the Gainesville Winter Guard International Regional on February 19th, 2005 with a score of 77.1.

• Congratulations to the Winter Guard for their outstanding performance at the Ft. Lauderdale WGI Regional on February 5th, 2005. Their score of 72.5 is now the third best score of all Scholastic A Winter Guards in the nation to date. Keep up the great work guard members.

• The University of Miami will be hosting the South Florida Honors Band the 2nd weekend of February on the U of M campus. The following band members were selected to participate in this prestigious annual event. Taiki Azuma (Alto Sax), Kevin Pearl (Oboe), Chris Levin (Bassoon), Cecilia Yudin (French Horn), Alexis Thompson (French Horn), Kevin Halprin (French Horn), Nina Dvora (Trumpet), Adam Kol (Tuba).

• In early December, several band members traveled to Florida State University and to the University of South Florida to participate in two prestigious Honor Bands sponsored by these universities. Amanda Short (Oboe) and Amy Alger (French Horn) participate in the Tri State Honor Band at Florida State University. Nina Dvora (Trumpet), Taiki Azuma (Alto Sax), Kevin Pearl (Oboe), Andrew Leitch (Euphonium), Chris Levin (Bassoon), Cecilia Yudin (French Horn), Maho Azuma (Flute) and Kerry Regan (Clarinet) participated in the Festival of Winds Honor Band at the University of South Florida. Congratulations to these outstanding band members for their musical accomplishments.

• The following band members were selected to the All County Jazz Band which performed on November 23, 2004. Nina Dvora (Trumpet), Lyle Kossis (Trumpet), Galen Spikes (Trumpet) and Matt Porcelain (Alto Sax).

• Congratulations to all members of the Marching Band for a great performance at the Florida Bandmasters Association District 15 Marching Band Performance Assessment. All Superiors in Music, Marching, General Effect and Auxiliary. You have achieved the goal of reaching our 24th year of consecutive Superior ratings, one for each year JPT has been open. You all are the best.

• Vero Beach Band Contest Results ---- Congratulations to the entire band for a wonderful performance yesterday afternoon and evening at the Vero Beach Crown Jewel Marching Band Contest. You represented your band, JP Taravella High School and your parents in a very positive way. Best Music (a tie with Sebastian River), Best Marching and Best Auxiliary during the prelims in your class was a pleasant reward for all of us. In the Finals, we were again rewarded with Best Auxiliary (nice job to all the members of the Color Guard). What you all have done with this show over the past two weeks has been phenomenal. You have really worked hard to pull it together and it showed during last nights performance. Thanks again for keeping the Taravella traditions alive.

• The Wind Orchestra has returned from a highly successful performance at the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival.  For a snippet of what the adjudicators had to say, visit our Praise section.  We are all very proud of the 45-member Wind Orchestra, who is after all, only an ambassador of the wonderful program we share in, and representative of many of our other talented and mature student musicians.

• The Band will be participating in the Parkland Days Parade on November 7th (Sunday). Meeting time at Parkside and Holmberg Road will be 10:00 am. Parade kicks off at 11:00 am sharp. Pick up after parade will be Holmberg Road and NW 87th Ave. Click for Parade Details. Word Format

• The band is scheduled to march in the Vereran's Day Parade on Thursday, November 11th (see calendar). Meeting time at the Band Room in full uniform will be 7:30 AM. Parade starts at 9:00 AM. Parents needed to help transport students to Tamarac City Hall (or walk).
